Before joining A&M, he served as President and CEO of Mobius Healthcare Consulting, a firm he established in 2013. Mobius specialized in strategic planning, tactical execution including operational turnarounds, network development for accountable care and corporate integration (strategic, organizational and cultural).

Previously, Mr. Schaffer served in numerous roles in Providence Health & Services over the last ten years. Starting in 2002 as Chief Executive of the San Fernando Valley service area ($1 billion in annual revenues), he was subsequently promoted during his tenure to the California Regional COO and eventually to California Regional CEO ($1.8 billion) and then to SVP of Regional Operations for Alaska, Washington, Montana and California ($5.2 billion). His final role was as Executive Vice President, managing the affiliation between Providence and Swedish Health Services.

Earlier, Mr. Schaffer held executive positions in Universal Health Services including CEO of numerous hospitals, the startup of two greenfield hospitals and as a regional executive over his 13 years at Universal. Subsequently, he served as CEO of several Tenet facilities and an executive with Catholic Healthcare West (Dignity Health).

He served as 2009 Chairman of the Board of the California Hospital Association (CHA)¸ the statewide leader representing the interests of hospitals and health systems in California. CHA includes nearly 450 hospital and health system members. In addition, he was the Chairman of the Board of the Hospital Association of Southern California in 2005, a healthcare trade and advocacy group representing more than 170 hospitals in Southern California.

Mr. Schaffer earned a B.S. in management from Northern Illinois University and an M.S. in healthcare administration from Trinity University, San Antonio.
