WHAT SOLUTIONS HAVE BENEFITED OUR CLIENTS?

1. Public Service Client
  • Overview: The impact of the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA), combined with a 28 percent volume reduction between fiscal year (FY) 2006 and FY 2016 and an unfavorable product mix shift, caused a significantly worsened financial condition for USPS. From FY 2007 through FY 2016, USPS’s cumulative net income was negative $63 million; losses were expected to continue into the foreseeable future. A&M performed an assessment of the end-to-end supply chain, network optimization, logistics and processing, and retail operations.
  • Outcome: A&M identified 11 recommended initiatives, with implementation guidance to drive $100 million+ of potential savings each year, including more efficient management of transportation spending, improved automation, realignment of staff to workload, expanded self-service kiosks, and carrier route and collection box optimization. The recommended initiatives totaled $2.6 billion in average annual savings, including over $900 million under current legal, regulatory and labor constraints.
2. Defense and Security Client
  • Overview: A defense and security client needed to improve collaboration with mission partners, reduce complexity across divisions and increase operational effectiveness in the delivery of advanced technology. To realize these outcomes, A&M was brought on to define, design and implement a new organizational strategy, structure and operating model.
  • Outcome: A&M’s proprietary organizational fitness assessment identified opportunities to increase speed-to-value. These included assessing the client’s distributed/remote workforce across multiple locations and partners including academia, industry and research labs to identify areas for increased collaboration and flexibility. A&M addressed these opportunities with benchmarks, surveys and research to develop recommendations for building a customer-centric culture focused on operational excellence. A&M delivered an integrated improvement implementation roadmap with action plans by workstreams to drive collaboration and accountability.
3. Public Service Client
  • Overview: A federal credit program offered secured direct loans, loan guarantees and standby lines of credit to borrowers, aiming to develop significant development projects in the transportation sector. Given the complexity of loans in this sector, the client needed to understand the intricacies and challenges associated with restructuring loans issued under the government program, and explore strategic alternatives for investments.
  • Outcomes: A&M conducted a review of transportation loans issued under the government loan program that had been restructured in order to develop “lessons learned” for future restructuring situations. Additionally, A&M provided financial advisory services with respect to holdings for a sector that emerged recently from bankruptcy and strategic alternatives to investments in this area.
